Luc Delahaye’s Winterreise bridges the gasp between art and reportage. Through 144 photographs, all taken in Russia, between November 1998 until March 1999, Delahaye exposes a dark, sad but at the same time poetic side of Russia. Russia’s moral and social crisis is present all along with alcohol, drugs and domestic violence showing a society free of safety net.

Delahay’s use of fast colour film, and without the help of the flash, delivers a grainy, snapshot feel in the photographs that make them feel intimate and warm despite the sad/melancholic theme of theirs.

The pocket size book defines the desire of the photographer. Inside the bag or pocket of the reader, always accessible, to run back at any time of his/hers favorite photograph.
